Five Places not to miss in Paris

So, you’re about to go on a trip to Paris? Or at least thinking about it? I went last year and let me tell you, it is SO worth it. Paris is absolutely beautiful and if you get the chance, you should definitely go.

Before I went to Paris, I was actually kind of overwhelmed by all the sights there are to see, and I created a homemade map, printed from Google Maps in which I highlighted all the sights I wanted to see. And while we did manage to visit all the major sights, we did find quite a few less known places in Paris, that are so worth a visit.

Notre Dame

While this is definitely one of the major sights in Paris, it absolutely breathtaking nontheless. I recommend going in the evening, as the light is just beautiful at that time, and the crowds are smaller. While there, take the take to walk around the cathedral, as the gardens behind it are stunning as well.

Versailles

If you have a little bit more time on your trip to Paris, I do recommed visiting the Chateau de Versailles. The Gardens are so vast that they seem endless. You can actually rent a golf cart to get around the gardens. It’s quite expensive (I’m talking 32€ for one hour), but great fun. We actually did that when we visited Versailles and I’m sure we wouldn’t have seen as much of the gardens as we did, had we not rented the golf cart.

Arc de Triomphe

While seeing the Arc de Triomphe from the Champs Elysees is impressive as it is, with the french flag flying inside the arch, the view from the top will leave you speechless.

It’s quite windy up there, but when we visited, there was hardly anyone up there and you could see all of Paris.

Musée de l’Orangerie

If you enjoy art, namely Monet, I recommend visiting the Musée de l’Orangerie, beautifully located in the Jardin des Tuileries. I love Monet’s paintings and was super excited about finally seeing them in real life. And as you can tell from the photo, hardly anyone there either. In retrospect, we did really well avoiding the crowds in Paris.

Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre

To me, one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Paris, was seeing Sacré-Cœur. It is just a beautiful cathedral, and you get rewarded with a lovely view of Paris, if you climb up all those stairs to the cathedral.

We actually took it a step further (see what I did there?) and climbed the tower. While I do admit that I was completely out of breath, after 300 steps inside the cathedral and another 100 in front of it, the view was worth it.

I hope you’ll enjoy your trip to Paris as much as I did. And do let me know in the comments about other great places not to miss in Paris! 🙂
